Jon and I are halfway home, driving from CA to CT. We’re now in Nebraska. Expected day of arrival Thursday. Will post as I can but can’t depend on motel Wifi connections. I am doing this from my phone. All is well.

Thanks, David. We got home just before midnight last night. One last push of almost 600 miles did it. Safe and sound. But ask me how soon I’ll be ready to get into a car again, and the answer is Never!

What? You think out here in Nebraska we don’t have wifi? Well .. in some spots we don’t. But, mostly, we got electricity, wall to wall floors in our houses, and motor cars have replaced horseback (again, mostly) as a means of getting around. We also have miles and miles of nothing but miles and miles, but otherwise we’re dang near civilized out here in Cornhusker land.

No slur intended for Nebraskans who don’t live in motels, Wayne. The one we stayed in at North Platte turned off their wifi at midnight and it still wasn’t on in the morning. The elevator wasn’t working either.
You are quite right about miles and miles of nothing but miles and miles, but even worse was western Iowa, where there is Nothing.

My wife’s family traveled to Nebraska in covered wagons.
If you’d seen her family, you’d know why the wagons were covered.

Have a safe trip. Try to hit Wall Drug in South Dakota on the way. Great ice cream and fantastic collection of illustration art on the cafe walls.
