Music I’m Listening To: MINT TATTOO — Mint Tattoo [Complete Album].

Mint Tattoo was an offshoot of the hard rock band Blue Cheer, with some of the same members. Their only LP, self-titled, was released in 1969.

They’d never get away with an album cover like that today. (Assuming, of course, that is the album cover).

Yes, that is the album cover. I do not know if it was controversial back then, and if so, how they managed to sell it in stores. If the album sold at all. The group itself was very short-lived.

Remember the Blind Faith album had a naked pre-teen girl on the cover in 1969 and no one batted an eye. For good reason, that wouldn’t get issued like that today.

As I remember it, the cover to the Blind Faith album was controversial. So much so that the record company had to re-release the LP with a different cover. It’s the one on the re-mastered CD version now. (Amazon does offer copies of an import CD with the original cover.)
