Based on the novel by Ross Thomas, Briarpatch, the TV series, will debut on the USA Network in February.
“Rosario Dawson stars as a determined investigator returning to her hometown to investigate the explosive murder of her sister. From mysterious deaths and corruption, to occasional car explosions and zoo animals on the loose, it’s a wild ride through the town of Saint Disgrace.”

It has been awhile since I read BRIARPATCH but everything so far has me hopeful they got this right. The trailer shows off Thomas’ fondness for calm odd characters, his wit and ability to drift off plot for the fun of the characters and story.
I don’t care the main character in the book was a white male and in the movie is a black woman she seems to have the character down well.
I put most of my hope in Sam Esmail (MR ROBOT and 1917). Can’t wait until Feb and hope this will re-interest people in Ross Thomas books.

I have been wondering about the wisdom of casting a black woman in the part, but if you think you’re OK with it, I feel better about it myself.

It has been so long since I read this that I have absolutely zero memory of the book, other than that I liked it (like most of the other Thomas books). Let’s hope it is worth the wait.

Update. This premieres Feb 6th and is a 10-part story that is the first of a planned anthology series. So apparently this is a one season story. Wonder what will the second season be about, if there is a second season?
