Music I’m Listening To: CÉLINE DION “All By Myself.”

Céline Dion was my wife’s favorite female singer. She listened to her CDs constantly. It wasn’t until I came across a live version of this song on YouTube that I realized how dynamic if not out-and-out physical her singing voice was:

I believe I once enjoyed a beer either with the guy who wrote this song, or his best friend, or his kid brother. That was back when I drank beer, I switched to hard stuff based on doctor’s orders.

It was singer-songwriter Eric Carmen, who wrote this song. He started his career with The Raspberries before going solo. Unfortunately he based some of the music on Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, not realizing it was not in the public domain, and (as I understand it) Rachmaninoff is given co-credit for writing the song.

That rings true to what I recall of the conversation I had. The Raspberries, yep.
Carmen was talented. “Please Baby Go All the Way” (or whatever the title was) is rather a startling, frank song.
Eric Burden also worth a mention if we’re talking about Erics.
In the same vein: Lee Michaels.

A good story. If you’d told me you had a beer with Mr. Rachmaninoff, though, I’d really have to shake your hand.
I still will, though, the next time we get together.

Eric Carmen — hit after hit after hit.
A handful with The Raspberries:
Go All The Way
I Wanna Be With You
Let’s Petend
Overnight Sensation
Solo:
Make Me Lose Contol
Never Gonna Fall In Love Again
Hungry Eyes
All By Myself
And 2 songs covered by Sean Cassidy:
That’s Rock and Roll
Hey Deanie
I admit I know too much about this.
I still have a CD-3 (remember those?) of The Raspberries put out by Rhino.
