Movie Trailers I’m Watching: NO TIME TO DIE (2020).

I’ve not seen a James Bond movie since Casino Royale, the first one in which Daniel Craig had the starring role. I don’t see anything in this one that appeals to me, either, but there’s plenty of time for me to change my mind about that.

I share your reaction. Lame, tepid retread. I’m an Ian Fleming fan & have followed the films from the beginning. Dad took out the family on a rare movie date to see From Russia With Love when it first came out, and I took my girlfriend to see Goldfinger 3 times upon its initial release. Hated Moore, the others who followed were varying degrees of okay. But I gave up with Craig era. Acceptable action films but why bother calling the guy James Bond? I see no resemblance to the books or what I loved about the Connery films. For my money, the current Mission Impossible franchise is everything the Bond films used to be

Craig’s portrayal of James Bond is the closest the actual Bond of the novels, IMO. Fleming depicted Bond as a cold-hearted sadistic playboy, a borderline psychopath who was truly dangerous. I will be the first to tell you that I loathe excessive violence in movies, the shoot em ups with too many explosions all seem like cartoons to me these days. But I loved Casino Royale because Craig was so different and deadly serious as Bond. I also liked Skyfall for its tragic elements. To each his own.

This is supposed to be Craig’s last film as Bond. How many notice the young black woman is called 007 while Craig is only called Bond.
One of the rumors about SPYFALL was Sean Connery was due to return as the old man at Bond’s family home. The family home would have been more of a spy retirement home. Connery would have played his original role as James Bond 007 and all the Bonds would be different people playing under the code name of James Bond 007. Sadly Connery was too ill to do the role.
Supposedly Bond has retired (thus a new 007) but is drawn back in. I like the ideas this trailer is hinting at.
I had no problem with Craig playing Bourne as Bond or the movies paying some attention to Fleming’s work for a change.
I have been watching Bond since DR NO and remember how the Kansas state censor board put an intermission in so to remove the GOLDFINGER scene with the dead gold woman. Roger Moore and his slapstick stopped me from watching but I have caught up during the Bonds marathon TV cable loves to show. Connery remains my Bond and I still have those films to enjoy. Bond continues to live because of his (and maybe even hers) ability to change.
I look forward to see the changes in Bond. I am old and if I want Bond to live beyond me I want it to adapt to the future audience.

My James Bond is Sean Connery, no doubt about it, even more than Ian Fleming’s James Bond, s strange as that may sound. Those who have said that Daniel Craig is the closest James Bond to Fleming’s James Bond I think are correct. Michael, you are also correct, movie franchises such as the Bond films have to grow and adapt to the times in order to survive. But before I watch this new film coming out next year, I am going to have to adjust. I will start by watching CASINO ROYALE again, and then the ones that have come out in between. I hope to be pleasantly surprised.

Steve, Craig’s Bond films have been uneven. I liked CASINO ROYALE for its action and stunts but it reacted too much against the Brosnan films trying to return to Bond’s past style.
Poor Pierce. According to the REMINGTON STEELE producers I talked to Pierce hated the tux and enjoyed getting dirty. I suspect he would have enjoyed the Craig rough dirty violent style over his formal wear cool style he was stuck with.
QUANTUM OF SOLACE remains one of Bond’s worst films for its terrible writing, villain and let down from CASINO ROYALE.
SKYFALL may be a bad movie but as a Bond fan I enjoyed it and how it finally fleshed out Bond’s background. I find the Craig films the most emotional of the Bonds.
SPECTRE was ok but forgettable. It tried too hard to be a connect the dots of Craig’s films.
NO TIME TO DIE trailer is too cute. We have seen Felix drag James back into the spy business before. The Craig series seems to try too hard to be serious while still understanding Bond is an action spy hero not a spy thriller.
