DONALD HAMILTON and the last MATT HELM novel.
Posted by Steve under Authors , Characters[7] Comments
In the course of our conversations via email about Donald Hamilton’s death today, Charles Ardai, publisher of the Hard Case line of hardboiled paperbacks, confirmed that “a final, unpublished Matt Helm book exists but that Don’s son isn’t ready to publish it yet.”
There was more that was said about the book, but at the moment this is all I’m at liberty to pass along. Personally, this is good news, but it certainly would be better, if not great news if there were any indications that it would be published soon. Which, on the other hand, you should not take as implying that it won’t be.

Is there anything fans can do to convince Don’s son that there are many loyal readers who would very much like to have a final opportunity to appreciate his work?? (And/or convince Charles Ardai to work towards this goal?)

Please see that this last book by a known great is published. Fans have been waiting 15 years for a final send off of a great character. Some of us grew up with Matt & even enjoyed the whimsical Dean Martin films. One more for the road…

Matt, should live on. Publish Don’s last and who ever owns the rights; hire a new writter. All of his fans would appreciate this. I have read the first 12 novels and enjoyed every one. All the best Rob.

I began reading Matt Helm Novels in Vietnam, when a lady back in the states sent me several. I collected all of the up to, and including “The Vanishers”. I read the all again every other year in rememberance of my time in Vietnam, and other events. I hope these novels can continue, and I would like to find the last few that I have not yet been able to collect.

A fantastic series of novels, better even than the Travis McGee Series and the Lew Archer Series. It is tantalising to think that there is yet another Helm adventure out there somewhere …

I have always wanted to see a Matt Helm film made that was not a spoof like the Dean Martin gold but closer to the books. The closest thing we gave to that is a few Alex Cord films from the seventies and Hard Contact starring James Coburn, Lee Remick and Burgess Meredith.

March 2022:Agree with all and ditto the remarks by John Peel and Terry Tibbetts . We’ll all need Matt Helm now more than ever ( imagine what he could do with Putin), Please release his final novel and find someone to continue the series,
