I’m having some out-patient surgery done tomorrow. Nothing urgent about it, but there’s no reason to delay it either. I’ll be home by dinner time. I don’t know how wobbly in the knees I’ll be afterward, so I thought I’d give myself a longer break and take the rest of the weekend off as well. I’ll be back here by this time on Monday, if not before. See you then.

Steve,
Get well soon!
Rest and good food are great for healing.
Thanks,
Mike

Steve take the time off to read and watch a film noir. I remember when I was in the army and hospitalized a couple times. I read several Nero Wolfe novels.

Best of luck, and the quickest, easiest and most complete of recoveries…audio drama not your worst option, either!

Feel good.

Read and rest, Steve.
Or rest and listen to an audio book–if your minor medical procedure is vision related.
We’ll wait until you’re better, I promise.

Nothing better than kicking back with a stack of books for a weekend when you can’t go anywhere.
Having very recently spent a period of time convalescing myself, I had a big stack of books all prepared, within reach, on the nightstand. A couple mysteries, a couple Westerns, a couple adventure-type novels, one Carroll John Daly hardboiled, a Bill Crider Sheriff Dan Rhodes novel, etc.; something for whatever mood I might be in. Unfortunately my meds kept me sleeping or not very focused. And when I did try to read, I was nodding off and could not remember what went on in the book. Oh well. I tried.
Knowing that I had the books if I wanted them was positive reinforcement and uplifting while being bedridden.

Steve: Take it easy.

Tom Roberts’ comment about not being able to read the books he had set aside while he was convalescing reminds me of the time I was recovering from pneumonia. I set up an audio cassette player and a stack of Sherlock Holmes radio show tapes in the bedroom. I always fell asleep about halfway through each episode, but woke up again when the player shut off at the end of the episode with a loud click! Take it easy, Steve!

Thanks for all the good thoughts and the suggestions of what to do during my down time this weekend. They’re all fine ideas. I have several books I’m only partway into, and maybe I can finally get one of them finished.
I also have a ton of DVDs on hand, figuratively speaking, mostly of old TV shows and even older movies. A lot of them are noir and crime films, and I’ve meaning to find some time to watch them. I’ll see what I can do.
I ended up staying overnight at the hospital. I thought that might happen, even though the doctor didn’t think it would be necessary. It was quite an experience. I finally got home an hour or so ago, some 24 hours later than I’d planned on. The surgery went smoothly enough. It was the recovery time that ran longer than expected.
But I’m OK now, and it’s good to be home.

Dan Stumpf, if you are reading this send me your email and snailmail addresses. I want to let you know how much I appreciated your generosity at the Acorn Bookshop last week!
