His music is as addictive as popcorn to me. I listen to one song and I’m ready for the next.

If you listen to “Ain’t Hurting Nobody” you’ll have that tune in your head for days

John Prine remains my favorite songwriter. His ability to add humor to the sadness of life, poetry to the blandness of life and to bring tears with a simple line about the tragedy of life is unequaled.
I planned to quote Please Don’t Bury Me in my will. I am always amazed at songs such as The Accident (about a minor car accident at a four way stop), Dear Abby, Living in the Future, Linda Goes To Mars, The Late John Garfield Blues, and a endless number of others. Then there is his dark melancholy side of songs such as Hello In There and Sam Stone. Sam Stone is about a war vet who has returned home with a morphine habit due to a wound he received in combat. There is a line in that song that says more about the War Vets than all the flag waving words will ever do – there’s a hole in Daddy’s arm where all our money goes…
But which song to feature here. I picked this obscure one: Sabu Visits the Twin Cities Alone.

This is the first song on the compilation CD I’ve been listening to as I drive around doing errands all day, so I’m very familiar with it. The CD is simply one good song after the other, but it’s still too short to include all of them he’s done over the years.
