Martha Davis had a great voice–and she was a little older than some of the other “girl singers” in 1980s bands (in fact, I think her kids were in their teens when the Motels broke through). The Motels had another song, “Mission of Mercy”, which is one of my favorites from that era.
/”In the seventies, I was a Disco Dolly; in the eighties, I was a Reagan-era Go-Go Girl” is the first line of my riveting autobiography.
According to Wikipedia, the first incarnation of The Motels was in 1971, when Martha Davis was 20. Their first album, self-titled, was released in 1979, but it was a couple of years more before they made any kind of national impact.
Surprisingly enough, the group, now known as Martha Davis and The Motels, was still touring as of 2014.
