As I promised a couple of days ago, here’s a small collection of some other paperbacks that Victor Kalin did the artwork for. I’ve admired his paintings for quite a while, but I really don’t know very much about him, other than he was born in 1919.
There are a couple of websites you could look into, both dealing with the sale of original art, a hobby I regret I never got into. The first is
http://www.askart.com/askart/k/victor_kalin/victor_kalin.aspx
and the second is
http://new.artnet.com/artist/651160/victor-kalin.html
Other than the covers he did, that’s about all I know about him. If you know more, please drop me a line.
And of course, here below are only a small fraction of the covers he did.

I’ve been in touch with Rebecca, and she’s pleased that her father is getting some attention he deserves. If we can work it out, and with Gary Lovisi’s help, a checklist of his paperback cover artwork looks like it could be done, and if so, probably to appear in Gary’s Paperback Parade.
Rebecca goes on to say: “Vic died 11/24/91. His birthdate is 1/19/19. He was witty, talented, always cheerful, and an absolute angel.”

Gary’s willing to step aside, and I’ve put Rebecca and Dan in touch with each other. Dan’s magazine with its color illustrations is always a work of art in itself, and I’m really looking forward to what he can do for Victor Kalin.

I think I have one of his paintings. It is signed, of couple hitching a ride on the back of an hay wagon, at dawn. Several people have said it is an actual painting and it looks like it is to me.

Greetings to all interested in Kalin’s work. I am a jazz person, raised with the music in the L.A. area. My introduction to his art has been the great Decca Jazz Heritage Series lp covers he did in the 1960’s for Milt Gabler’s collections. As near as I can tell, there were 27 done for Decca: lps #9221 to #9248 (or 79221 to 79248 if reprocessed stereo). Go to ebay (enter Decca lp and the artist) and see these great paintings of jazz masters: Lunceford, Ellington, Hines, Armstrong, Hampton, Henderson, Herman, Oliver, Webb, etc. I wonder where the originals are! Clearly, a great artist, sensitive to the music of the 30s (see the 4 he did of Lunceford and 3 of Ellington). Here’s to the first major show of his work!!

Hi Steve,
I am an Art Producer for The Martin Agency in Richmond, Virginia. I see that you were in touch with Rebecca Kalin. I would love to know if either of you would know who I can purchase rights to use one of his screen prints for commercial use. I would appreciate any help!
Thank you!

I was fortunate enough to know both Victor and “Becky”. His art, humor, and the I describe joy that he was have been shining examples for me to be since. And he introduced me to Coltrane and Mingus.
