OTR News from Karl Schadow:
There is great news for fans of THE AVENGER. A 1941 episode of the WHN production featuring Richard Henry Benson has now been posted online:
While this particular exploit has been on collectors’ shelves for years, it has not been widely circulated nor publicized. This rendition is from the earlier series that is much different than the Brandon version (a takeoff of The Shadow) which is most familiar to listeners. The WHN program is more loyal to the characters in the pulps.
The YouTube presentation includes brief historical notes on both the Benson and Brandon series. The video was designed to stimulate interest in THE AVENGER and the BLOOD ‘N’ THUNDER journal.

‘Avenger’ has yet to catch hold of me so far; I can’t find a firm handle on it to draw me in.
What I’ve been listening to lately: tried-and-true, solid workhorses like ‘Voyage of the Scarlet Queen’ (a show which dazzled young Gene Rodenberry) and
New discoveries: two on this page of Mfile I will certainly check out. But fresh titles are rare (in general). Glenn Ford as ‘Christopher London, P.I.’ just came to my attention recently (I don’t know how good it is).
Thanks for keeping OTRR in mention on Mfile!

I’ve not been actively collecting OTR shows for many years now, but Karl promises that he’ll keep me up to date with new finds as they come along. I really need more time in the day!

Oops, sentence trailed off there (above).
Workhorses enjoying lately: the superb pairing of John Gielgud and Ralph Richardson in the 1954 Harry Allen Towers, ‘Adventures of Sherlock Holmes’. A dozen episodes; high production values throughout. Richardson is my favorite British actor of all time.

If I had nothing else to do, I could listen to radio shows all day long!

They’re a good antidote for the crazed, high-stress, modern business routine lately these days.
Some people chew gum or smoke. Radio serials relax me.
Sorta like how Dana Andrews’s character in ‘Laura’ kept on fiddling with the little hand-held kid’s game during the case.
Comedy OTR shows too. Nothing else as reliable for a good laugh when one needs it; and I like not having to take my eyes off whatever I happen to be doing, in order to amp down mental overload.
