Music I’m Listening To: BLONDIE “Heart Of Glass.”

This one caught my attention the first time I heard it on the radio. It’s even better live. (Even if it’s lip-synced, as it probably was, since the video is from Dick Clark’s American Bandstand.)

From later in Debbie Harry’s career, plus inside info on the original title of “Heart of Glass.”

Wolfgang’s is the best subscription service I’ve ever joined. I shun many such. But it’s all live — live concerts –bootlegs of almost every famous group.
Inexplicably short of Johnny Cash (maybe the House-of-Cash is tight-fisted) but in terms of New Wave, I’ve savored live shows from Blondie, B52s, Elvis Costello, Pat Benatar, Talking Heads, The Cars, Robert Hazard, Lene Lovitch, Romeo Void, Nick Lowe, Dave Edmunds, Marshall Crenshaw, Thomas Dolby, Joe Jackson, Stray Cats, The Hooters. The difference in ‘fun factor’ compared to music vids, is enormous. For like, $4.00 per month!

This seems to be a link:

So far I’ve sampled some audio concerts only. I could spend hours here. Literally. I don’t know whether to thank you or not, Lazy. 🙂

It’s a musical Aeneid. For $4 per month, I can’t see much downside.
Where else can you hear an 18-minute long version of “Radar Love”?
Or the harrowing live version of Benatar’s ‘Hell is for Children’.
Taj Mahal, John Lee Hooker, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Otis Spann…

Thanks! Excellent tip. That is some intriguing line-up for new wave bands.
“The Secret Policeman’s Other Ball” is another admirable list of talent. I’ve contacted Wolfgang’s to see if they might eventually air it, but no joy yet. WG does feature some comedy concerts but not for much longer.
Oh –and interviews. I listened to a fascinating interview with Belushi & Ackroyd right on the verge of their ‘Blue Bros’ fame.
Tastes: I’m mainly fascinated by obscure music such as from 1920s-30s. The 78rpm era.
Such as here:

R. Crumb once said he stopped listening to anything past the 1950s. I get where he must have been coming from.
To complement your link I’ll add a few more:

Nauck’s is a place for collectors of early media like shellac, cylinder, Diamond-Discs, and stuff going back to Edison.
And here’s a page which not only has free music to sample, but which also talks about how sound for ‘talkie’ movies was originally developed:

Mysteryfile itself occasionally mentions rare and unusual songs, which I am always hawk-eyed for and gratified to see.
