While hardly unexpected, this is sad news indeed. To learn more, please follow the link below to Martin Edwards’ very personal post on the loss of a longtime friend:

I am way behind on reading all of Lovesey’s books and stories. Way behind. I started well by reading his first mystery novel when it first came out, but I have lost considerable ground since then. I can only blame myself.

I read WOBBLE TO DEATH in 1970 and read a lot of his other books and short stories.

I saw that date (1970) for WOBBLE too, and marveled at it. A career 55 years long is well worth celebrating.

I had the privilege of knowing Peter Lovesey a little these last years and I can only say he was as witty and good humored as his books. I, admit my reading of his work is off and on but he never disappointed.

Like you and Jeff, I read WOBBLE TO DEATH 55 years ago. Since then I’ve read a dozen or so Lovesey mysteries. And like David, I was never disappointed with any of the Lovesey books I read.
The only bright spot in all of this is that I have a bunch o fLovesey books on my shelves waiting to be read…
