In the late 1950s, my parents made a nice living building expensive houses “on spec” in the hilly Little Tuscany area of Palm Springs CA and selling them.
One day when I was at elementary school, Louis Prima and Keely Smith were shown the house. There was a huge inside open on three sides free-standing fire pit that faced into the living room and opposite dining room. My parents laughed about it for years: when Keely saw the house and fireplace and the incredible view, she said “Louie baby, will you looky here!”
That’s what I always think of when I see or hear about Louis Prima and Keely Smith even now.

Flattery will get you everywhere, Dan. It’s especially nice to know I’m worth being flattered.

PS. Their version of “That Old Black Magic” won them a Grammy in 1959, the very first year of the Grammy Awards.
